If your production requires an historic
deer park, the Berkeley and Spetchley Estates have 500
acres between them
- complete with resident herds of red and fallow deer living
amongst ancient oak, cedar and beech trees in open rugged
landscape.
Queen Elizabeth I was one of many famous
visitors to Berkeley, and on one occasion, famously over-hunted
the Castle's deer. On gentle reprimand, she departed
in a huff, leaving her silk bedspread behind, now on display for all to see!
Berkeley's medieval Deer
Park - which has already featured in television drama
- is also home to an unusual folly and a gatehouse. The
seventeenth century deer park at Spetchley includes a
cricket pitch and a 5 acre lake with island and
boathouse!
