Renowned as one of the finest gardens of late Victorian
England, Spetchley Park offers the film maker 30 acres
of beautiful and largely unaltered space, with an imposing
Bath Stone mansion for a backdrop.
Spetchley is full of wonderful vistas,
gnarled old oak trees, panoramic views, acres of lawn
stretching
down
to a lovely lake with an island, and a sweeping 1½ mile
drive through open parkland. It's the perfect setting
for authentic period drama.
This is a garden of gardens
- fourteen to be exact - ranging from a magnolia-fringed
horse pool and fountain gardens to a Victorian melon
yard, a kitchen garden and a copse. A recent article
described it as the Lost Gardens of Heligan where the
keys were never lost; a recent national poll placed it 4th most popular garden in the UK!
Add to that a stable yard
and coach sheds, potting sheds, a rare old Root House,
alcoves and statues, a boathouse, a church and a cemetery
- and even the most discerning film maker will be spoilt
for choice!
